Apart from religious significance, Trimbak Fort played a part in the history. Ramchandra of Yadavas of Devgiri built it. In 1629, Mughal Emperor Shahjahan sent an army and after a long battles in the areas captured it in 1636. It remained with them till 1720 when it passed to Nijam who ruled it till 1752. The Marathas captured it then and Col. Mcdowell led the final attack against it in 1818 on 24th April. After a three hours of firing the fort surrendered. The British conquered Trimbak and dismantled the fort.
